Antonio Conte sends Chelsea challenge to Eden Hazard
The Chelsea manager opens up about Eden Hazard's continued improvement at the west London side
Antonio Conte has challenged Eden Hazard to continue his improvement at Chelsea.
The Belgium international has found his feet in the Blues team over the past couple of months following an injury-hit start to the season.
The 26-year-old broke his right ankle on international duty in May 2017 following his second Premier League title success.
Hazard scored 16 times in the Premier League last term to win the top-flight crown in Conte’s first term in charge of the west London side.
The Belgian forward is back to his best after he scored two goals and made nine attempts during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
In fact, Hazard’s six shots on target were more than any other Premier League in the 2017-18 season so far.
The 2015 PFA Premier League player of the year has scored five goals and has made two assists in 12 Premier League appearances in the current campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Newcastle in west London, Conte issued a challenge to Hazard.
“Eden played a good game,” Conte said. “Today we saw a good link between him and Alvaro.
“In this type of game, when we decided to have a tactical solution, he had more freedom to play as striker and then offensively he was very dangerous.
“He played very well, scored twice, and the goalkeeper made two fantastic saves from him. He must continue in this way to improve himself.”
Hazard has won two Premier League titles in the past five seasons to help establish himself as one of the English top flight’s best players.
Chelsea will make the short trip to West Ham in the Premier League next weekend.
