Eden Hazard sends defiant Chelsea message to Champions League rivals
The Chelsea number 10 opens up about their potential opponents in the Champions League last 16
Eden Hazard has warned Chelsea’s rivals in the Champions League that the Premier League title holders won’t fear any club in the last-16 draw.
The Blues finished in second place in Champions League Group C following a 1-1 draw with Spanish side Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side finished behind Serie A giants AS Roma after losing 4-0 to the Italian club in Rome back in October.
Chelsea’s second-placed finish means Antonio Conte’s side could face cash-rich Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain or La Liga leaders Barcelona.
The Blues haven’t won the competition since 2012 and their manager Conte is looking to win the Champions League crown for the first time in his managerial career.
The defending Premier League champions are 11 points behind current leaders Manchester City to make the Champions League and the FA Cup more realistic competitions to win.
Chelsea number 10 Hazard is backing the Blues to beat any team despite the prospect of a difficult Champions League knockout stage draw.
“It’s not a problem, we are Chelsea,” Hazard told BT Sport.
“We are a top team so we can face anybody. We know PSG and Barcelona are very good but we are Chelsea and we ready for everything. We can do everything.”
Chelsea managed to beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in 2012 after coming from behind to rescue a draw before winning the competition for the first time on penalties.
The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window.
