Michael Owen says the return of Victor Moses to the Chelsea team is important for the Blues – but claims that the Nigerian is far from being the club’s most important player.

Moses was out of action for a number of weeks after suffering a hamstring injury and undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation process at Cobham.

The wing-back made his return to the Chelsea team when he played the full 90 minutes in the Blues’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last weekend.

Moses then followed that up by again featuring for the full 90 minutes during the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old established himself as a key player under Antonio Conte last season and was one of the driving forces behind the west London club’s Premier League title triumph.

But although Owen admits that Moses’ return to action is important for the Blues, he feels that there are other far more key players in the squad.

Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Owen said: “With the wing-back situation, it’s a specialist position so having options all over the pitch is important.

“His return is good but I certainly wouldn’t say that he’s the key player for the team.

“N’Golo Kante being back from injury has coincided with some great results, and obviously Eden Hazard looks like he’s back towards something like his best and he makes them tick as well.”

Moses will be expecting to feature for Chelsea when the Blues make the short trip across London to take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues are currently in third place in the Premier League table after 15 games of the new campaign.
