Antonio Conte sent clear message about Willian ahead of Newcastle clash

Pat Nevin believes that Willian deserves a more regular run in the Chelsea team in the coming weeks and months

Willian will be desperate to enjoy a regular run of games in the Chelsea team in the coming weeks, according to Pat Nevin.

The Brazilian attacker has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Chelsea starting line-up in recent months since Antonio Conte’s appointment as Chelsea boss back in the summer of 2016.

Willian, however, once again proved his importance to Chelsea on Saturday when he came off the bench to net the Blues’ all-important equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC at Anfield.

The 29-year-old, though, started only six of Chelsea’s 13 opening Premier League games this season and he seems to face a battle in trying to force his way into the starting line-up on a regular basis.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin is clearly a keen admirer of the Brazilian and is backing him to try and win back a place in the team in the coming weeks.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “The Brazilian certainly hasn’t let me down.

“With the block of games coming up being very winnable, Willian in particular will be desperate to have a few more chances to keep his scoring run going.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with a crunch clash against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League last week with a 4-0 victory over Qarabag.
