Pep Guardiola would ‘really like’ to sign Chelsea defender, claims ex-midfielder
The Chelsea legend claims that Man City boss Pep Guardiola would love to sign Andreas Christensen, before ruling out any potential transfer
Pep Guardiola would really like to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, although there is no chance of Manchester City landing the Danish star, according to Pat Nevin.
The Denmark international returned from a two-season loan stint at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer transfer window to bolster Antonio Conte’s defensive options.
Christensen made a solid start to the season as the Chelsea boss rotated his centre-halves before the Italian coach showed his faith in the 21-year-old with a starting spot against Manchester United at the expense of Brazilian David Luiz.
The Chelsea prospect managed to tame Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku as Alvaro Morata’s 55th minute winner sealed three points for the defending Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.
Christensen has started seven games and has made three appearances from the bench to help Chelsea climb up the Premier League table following a mixed start to the season.
Manchester City are currently without John Stones due to injury as Guardiola looks to win the Premier League title in his second season at the Etihad Stadium.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin lifted the lid on a rumour that he heard about Guardiola being a big admirer of Christensen.
“I heard a wee whisper, and I don’t know if it’s true, but the player he would really like more than anyone else is Andreas Christensen from Chelsea,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk last week.
“That’s the one he’d really like. He’s not going to get him but he’s at that sort of age he could to the same thing as Stones.”
