Antonio Conte told Chelsea should sign prolific 29-year-old striker from Bundesliga giants
Ray Wilkins wants Chelsea to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the January transfer window
Chelsea should look to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the January transfer window, according to Ray Wilkins.
The defending Premier League champions are rumoured to be in the market to sign a centre-forward next month to complement summer signing Alvaro Morata.
The Spain international moved to Chelsea in a club-record £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Conte was unable to convince his former Juventus forward Fernando Llorente to move to the west London side after the experienced Spanish striker swapped Swansea for Tottenham Hotspur.
Controversial striker Diego Costa secured a loan move back to Atletico Madrid in September with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
Costa’s departure has left Chelsea short on striker options with Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi seemingly not trusted to lead the Blues’ attacking line in Morata’s absence.
Former Chelsea assistant manager Wilkins believes the defending Premier League champions should target Bayern Munich’s prolific goal-scorer Lewandowski.
“It would have been lovely to see Bayern Munich knocked out and Robert Lewandowski come to Chelsea but that’s unlikely to happen,” Wilkins to sportingbet.
“He’s a player I’d love to see come to Stamford Bridge.”
The Poland international has scored 14 times in 14 games in the Bundesliga this term but has fallen out with the German club’s board on numerous occasions.
Chelsea won the title for the second time in three seasons last term.
