Jamie Carragher sends blunt message to Dejan Lovren after Liverpool FC v Everton
The Liverpool FC legend has no sympathy for Dejan Lovren after Wayne Rooney equalised from the penalty spot in Sunday's derby
Jamie Carragher felt Dejan Lovren could have no complaints about Wayne Rooney’s equaliser after the Liverpool defender conceded a late penalty to allow Everton to rescue a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The Croatia international has endured a testing 2017-18 season so far and was substituted after 32 minutes in a 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley back in October.
However, Lovren has started to piece together some decent form and Klopp started with the former Southampton defender alongside Ragnar Klavan for the season’s first Merseyside derby.
Summer signing Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock with his 14th Premier League goal of the season with a sumptuous finish before half-time to convert Liverpool’s dominance into a slender lead.
Everton showed little up front but Rooney equalised from the penalty spot when Lovren was adjudged to have pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the ground inside Simon Mignolet’s area.
The Liverpool centre-half and Jurgen Klopp showed their displeasure at Craig Pawson’s decision to award their derby rivals a penalty.
But former Reds defender Carragher felt that Lovren could have no complaints with the decision.
Carragher wrote on Twitter: “Get back in the dressing Lovren 100% pen.”
Lovren moved to Liverpool from Southampton in a £20m deal in the 2014 summer transfer window.
