Jamie Carragher hailed Philippe Coutinho’s second goal in Liverpool FC’s resounding 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Brazil international was handed the captain’s armband in the absence of Jordan Henderson and James Milner for the visit of the Russian side in their final group-stage game.

Coutinho broke the deadlock in the fourth minute from the penalty spot after a foul on summer signing Mohamed Salah in the penalty area.

The South American finished off a stunning Liverpool FC move to make it 2-0 after Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Salah were all involved in the build up.

Liverpool FC made it 3-0 before half-time with Firmino scored his first goal of the night before Mane’s stunning volley early in the second half put the result beyond doubt.

Coutinho completed his hat-trick with a deflected goal before Mane finished from close range to score Liverpool’s 23rd goal of the group-stage campaign at Anfield.

Summer signing Salah finally got his goal to leave Liverpool FC one goal shy of their record result in the Champions League.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher singled out Coutinho’s second goal for special praise following a memorable win.

Carragher wrote on Twitter: “2-0 Coutinho! Front four all involved what a goal!!! #LIVSPA #ChampionsLeague”

Liverpool FC will host bitter rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield in their next Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.
