Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Spartak Moscow
The Arsenal legend is tipping Liverpool to beat Spartak Moscow at Anfield on Tuesday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Liverpool FC to pick off Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Reds need a point to secure their place in the Champions League knockout stage following a solid if unspectacular group-stage campaign.
Liverpool FC drew 1-1 with the Russian club in Moscow when Brazil international Philippe Coutinho scored his first Champions League goal of the season.
The 18-time English champions have scored a staggering 19 goals in their last six Premier League games to improve confidence in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The German coach was afforded the luxury of resting Sadio Mane for Liverpool FC’s 5-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is confident that Liverpool FC will get the job done against Spartak Moscow to secure a place in the Champions League last-16 draw.
“Will Liverpool bottle it? I’d be very surprised if they did even after what happened in Seville,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“I’d expect them to do the business after another fine win at the weekend.
“We know they’ve got defensive problems, especially with Joel Matip out, but I actually see this being a really comfortable night with their home record being very decent this season.
“This is another one where I see the home crowd getting to the visitors and I think Liverpool will pick them off when they get desperate and come out.”
Liverpool FC are looking to reach their first Champions League final since 2007 when Rafael Benitez’s men lost 2-1 to Serie A giants AC Milan in Athens.
The Reds won the competition in 2005 when Liverpool FC came from 3-0 down to rescue a point in a 3-3 draw before winning on penalties.
Klopp signed Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to prepare his squad for a return to the Champions League.
