Robbie Savage: Jurgen Klopp needs Liverpool FC signing in key position
The BBC Sport pundit believes Liverpool FC are lacking a leader in the middle of the park
Robbie Savage has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool FC still lack a leader in midfielder despite Jordan Henderson’s honest efforts.
The Reds have endured some patchy form in their opening 14 games in the Premier League season so far to effectively end their title hopes.
Liverpool FC will be hoping to remain in the top-four battle to secure Champions League qualification for the second successive season.
The Merseyside outfit have conceded 18 times in 14 games in the Premier League to raise questions about Klopp’s defence.
Henderson has been critcised for providing poor defensive cover for Liverpool FC’s back four and contributiing to their issues at the back.
The Liverpool FC captain was particularly poor in their last Champions League game in Spain after the Reds squandered a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3.
Former Man United and Leicester midfielder Savage believes Klopp still needs a leader in the middle of the park.
“I think they are lacking a real leader. I really do,” Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Henderson has done amazing to do what he has achieved. He works hard and has amazing desire. But we’re going off past captains. Great captains such as Souness and Gerrard.
“I feel they are missing a real leader in the middle of the park.”
Liverpool FC agreed a £48m deal to sign Guinea international Naby Keita in the summer transfer window but the versatile midfielder won’t become a Reds player until 2018-19.
