Frank Lampard is expecting to see Liverpool FC sign a new central defender in the January transfer window.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move to land Southampton star Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window but a move for the defender failed to materialise.
Jurgen Klopp opted not to bring in another central defender in the summer but Liverpool FC’s defending has been called into question on a number of occasions this season.
Liverpool FC are likely to be linked with a number of players as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
And Chelsea legend Lampard is fully expecting to see Liverpool FC bring in a new defender in the January transfer window.
Speaking on BT Sport on Wednesday night, Lampard said: “Liverpool have a good squad. It’s just weak in some key areas.
“They will do [sign a centre-half in January]. They have to pick someone who is not playing currently so you can use them in the next stage [of the Champions League].”
Liverpool FC now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their crunch derby clash against Everton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table, after having booked their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the table last term under Klopp.
