Steve McManaman: The signing Liverpool FC must make in January
Steve McManaman admits he would like to see Liverpool FC sign Virgil van Dijk in January
Steve McManaman has urged Jurgen Klopp to reignite Liverpool FC’s interest in signing Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign the defender from Southampton in the summer months but a move failed to materialise.
However, Liverpool FC ended up having to publicly withdraw their interest in the player after they were accused of an alleged illegal approach by Southampton.
The Reds are bound to be linked with a fresh move to land Van Dijk next year as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
And former Liverpool FC star McManaman believes that the defender would be a good addition for the Reds because he wouldn’t be cup-tied in the Champions League.
Speaking to BT Sport last week, ex-midfielder McManaman said: “They could strengthen their squad in January.
“They have been heavily linked with Van Dijk. He would be able to play in the Champions League.”
Liverpool FC return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Everton at Anfield.
The Reds are aiming to at least better their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season as they try and qualify for the Champions League for the second season running.
They have been in top form in recent weeks and thrashed Spartak Moscow 7-0 on Wednesday night.
