Paul Scholes reacts to Romelu Lukaku’s display in Man United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow
The Man United legend reacts to Romelu Lukaku's performance in a 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night
Paul Scholes believes Romelu Lukaku’s goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow will be a “real confidence boost” ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday.
The Belgium international ended his four-game goal drought with a second-half equaliser at Old Trafford to score for the first time since finding a net in a 4-1 win over Newcastle United at the start of November.
Lukaku’s close-range finish was his second goal in 12 games in all competitions to find the net at a matter of days before Manchester United host the Premier League leaders.
Manchester City have won 14 games and drawn once in their opening 15 games in the Premier League but conceded against Manchester City and Southampton over the past week or so.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes believes Lukaku should be feeling confident ahead of the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
“It’s job done. I thought they were very good going forward,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“The only disappointment really is that it wasn’t three or four. Rashford was brilliant and it was a real confidence boost for Lukaku. He hadn’t scored in a while so it was nice for him to get a goal going into the big one on Sunday.”
Lukaku has now scored 13 goals in all competitions so far this season following his big-money summer move to Manchester United from Everton in the summer.
The Belgian forward has scored eight goals in 15 games in the Premier League this term after he netted 25 times in 36 outings in all competitions last term.
