Rio Ferdinand reacts to Man United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow
The Man United legend reflects on the Red Devils' 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night
Rio Ferdinand praised Manchester United’s performance in a 2-1 comeback win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils were all but qualified for the Champions League knockout stage despite their 1-0 loss at Basel last time out with CSKA needing to win by seven goals to cause a huge upset at Old Trafford.
Manchester United were fresh from a 3-1 win at title rivals Arsenal last weekend ahead of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in the Premier League next Sunday.
And the Red Devils made a disappointing start after Vitinho’s shot was diverted into the net by Alan Dzagoev to give the visitors a surprise lead in Manchester United.
However, Romelu Lukaku ended his goal drought with a close-range finish in the 64th minute before the striker’s header teed up Rashford to secure three points.
The England international’s eighth goal of the season will have done his chances of earning a spot in Jose Mourinho’s team for the derby at the weekend no harm.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was pleased to see the Red Devils continue their winning momentum ahead of the visit of leaders Manchester City on Sunday.
“It’s job done,” Ferdinand told BT Sport. “There were some very good parts and some bits you’d say were down to not really much riding on the game.
“I think the most important thing is the fact that Romelu Lukaku gets on the score-sheet. Goals have been lacking in his game of late. And the same for Marcus Rashford. It’s great going into the game at the weekend.”
