Paul Pogba needs to prove his world-class ability over 20 or 30 games in the Premier League, Kevin Kilbane has warned the Manchester United record signing.

The France international returned to the Manchester United team earlier this month following a hamstring problem that kept him sidelined for almost two months.

The Red Devils midfielder made a goal and got on the score sheet in Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United on his return to Jose Mourinho’s side.

The 25-year-old made a strong start to the campaign following two goals and two assists in his opening four Premier League fixtures before his injury problem.

Pogba struggled during his first season back at Manchester United following his £89m move from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Former Everton midfielder Kilbane sent a challenge to Pogba about his Manchester United form.

“He hasn’t proven himself consistently over a 20 or 30 game period where you can really say that money was spent on him. He hasn’t done it yet,” Kilbane told Newstalk.

Manchester United were 4-2 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night to extend their winning run to three Premier League games.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
