Frank Lampard: ‘Spectacular’ Man United star is clearly the best in the world
Frank Lampard explains why he thinks that Man United star David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world
Frank Lampard is convinced that David De Gea has established himself as the best goalkeeper in the world on current form at Manchester United.
The Spanish shot-stopper has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for the Red Devils in recent weeks and was widely lauded for his sparkling display in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal at The Emirates last weekend.
De Gea initially made a stuttering start to life at Old Trafford after joining the club from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
The Spain international is now regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers alongside the likes of Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois.
However, former Chelsea midfielder Lampard is convinced that De Gea has now established himself as the best shot-stopper in the world.
Speaking to BT Sport last week, Lampard said: “It’s very topical, obviously with De Gea being so good against Arsenal.
“But De Gea, on current form, is the best in the world. I think it’s very hard to gauge.
“You notice De Gea because he’s making spectacular saves week in, week out.”
De Gea will be expecting to start in goal for the Red Devils when Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils head into the game in second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s league leaders.
