The England international was handed a starting spot for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils forward was left out of Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up for the last two Premier League fixtures before the visit of Manchester City.
And Rashford repaid his manager’s faith with a first-half equaliser following David Silva’s opener in the 42nd minute at Old Trafford.
The England striker’s efforts weren’t enough to secure a point or more following Nicolas Otamendi’s second-half winner.
However, Rashford’s performance was enough to impress former Liverpool captain Souness in the derby clash.
The retired Scotland international lavished praise on Rashford for his pace and finishing following Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to the Premier League leaders.
“He’s a young man still learning the game,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“You can understand, at the age of 20, why he’s still in and out of the team.
“He’s got a great future ahead of him, he’s got electric pace and a trick and he knows how to score a goal.
“Onwards and upwards for him. I think he’s destined to be a very, very good player.”
Rashford has scored four goals and has made four assists in 11 appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League crown since 2013.
