Paul Scholes: I would have loved to play with this Man United star
The Man United legend opens up about the club's record signing Paul Pogba
Paul Scholes admits he would have liked to have played alongside Manchester United club record signing Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils brought the France international back to Old Trafford in the 2016 summer transfer window in a then world record £89m deal.
Pogba made a slow start to the 2016-17 season and finished the campaign with an underwhelming five goals and four assists.
The 25-year-old made a brilliant start to the current season with two goals and two assists in his first four Premier League outings.
However, Pogba suffered a serious hamstring problem in a 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League to curtail his form.
But the Manchester United midfielder inspired Jose Mourinho’s side to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle on his return to the team with a goal and an assist.
Pogba produced a man of the match performance with two assists in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against title rivals Arsenal in north London last weekend.
The versatile midfielder will miss Sunday’s Manchester derby following a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Spanish defender Hector Bellerin.
Asked whether he would like to play alongside Pogba in the Manchester United midfielder, Scholes told BT Sport:
“I would like to, yeah. He probably goes forward a bit too much, I don’t want to be exposed that much!
“But he’s got a great player next to him – the signing of Nemanja Matic has really helped him.
“I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Man United have been scoring goals when he’s come back into the team.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table.
