The defender was handed his first start of the season in all competitions for the Red Devils by Jose Mourinho, with the England international having been largely out of favour since the Portuguese coach’s appointment at the club.
Shaw put in an impressive display, especially attacking-wise, as he played the full 90 minutes and helped Manchester United to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League as winners of their group.
And Liverpool FC legend Gerrard admits that he was very impressed by Shaw’s performance for the Red Devils on Tuesday night.
Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, Gerrard said: “It was definitely a positive performance [from Shaw].
“To come into a team in a Champions League game and perform like that having been out for so long was very impressive.”
Shaw will be hoping to again be involved when Manchester United return to Premier League action with their crunch derby clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Red Devils head into that game in second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s men, who have only dropped two points so far this season.
