Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United need to the Old Trafford crowd behind them with some attacking football if Jose Mourinho’s men are to beat derby rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are looking to overturn an eight-point deficit in the Premier League title race and end Manchester City’s 13-game winning run at the top of the table.

Manchester United were impressive 3-1 winners against title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend thanks to goals from Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard in an uncharacteristically offensive performance at one of their title rivals.

The Citizens are looking to set a new Premier League record with 14th successive win at their home of their bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side were 2-1 winners against Manchester United at Old Trafford last season thanks to an impressive performance.

Former Manchester United midfielder Giggs believes Mourinho’s side need to get their supporters on side at Old Trafford if the Red Devils want to build up the necessary momentum to beat the Premier League leaders.

“I think United have got a good chance on Sunday,” Giggs told Sky Sports.

“Pogba’s absence is a blow. I thought he was brilliant against Arsenal, especially on the counter-attack, which is the way United might go here.

“I think it is key that they get the crowd up. If they are just sat back and waiting for that counter-attack and City having all the ball then they could just miss a trick in getting players going and the atmosphere up.

“So I’d like to see them go for it a bit at the beginning and then they are capable of just dropping back, defending and doing what they did against Arsenal.

“Although again Pogba will be a big miss if they play that way because how Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku broke with him was really dangerous.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term but won the Europa League and the League Cup in Mourinho’s first season.
