Gary Neville says it is imperative Manchester United disrupt Manchester City’s momentum in their derby meeting on Sunday 12 December.

The Red Devils are eight points behind the runaway leaders after Manchester United fell off the pace following a disastrous October.

Jose Mourinho’s side managed to collect four points from their Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Huddersfield Town, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Manchester United have bounced back from their 1-0 loss to defending champions at Stamford Bridge with three successive Premier League victories.

The Red Devils have beaten Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Watford in their last three Premier League outings to build some momentum.

Raheem Sterling’s last-gasp winner allowed Manchester City to extend their winning run to 13 games mid-week and the Citizens have earned 40 points from their opening 14 games.

Manchester United will make the trip to fourth-placed Arsenal on Saturday evening before hosting the leaders in the Manchester derby.

Former Manchester United defender Neville warned Mourinho’s men that the Red Devils can’t afford to drop points against the Citizens in the title race.

“One thing for certain is that United have to win the derby,” Neville told Sky Sports. “In terms of the title race, they have to damage them and really disrupt their rhythm.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the Red Devils outfit.
