Martin Keown sends blunt message to Jose Mourinho about Man United v Man City
The Arsenal legend tells Manchester United that they will have to attack Manchester City in the derby on Sunday 12 December
Martin Keown has told Jose Mourinho that Manchester United will have to attach Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday 12 December.
The Red Devils were 4-2 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night to temporarily move to within five points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Citizens restored the eight-point advantage thanks to Raheem Sterling’s dramatic winner in a 2-1 win over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Manchester City have won 13 games and have drawn once in 14 Premier League fixtures so far this season to build up some impressive momentum after 12 successive victories.
Mourinho was criticised for his negative approach to Manchester United’s goalless draw at Liverpool and 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to defending champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the end of October to lose further ground on Manchester City having seen their unbeaten run come to an end in a 2-1 loss at promoted side Huddersfield Town.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Manchester United will have to attack Pep Guardiola’s side in the derby on Sunday 12 December if the Red Devils harbour any ambitions of overhauling the neighbours and winning the title for the first time since 2013.
“City’s biggest test is at Old Trafford in 10 days’ time,” Keown told The Daily Mail.
“Jose Mourinho is going to have to come to the party and attack City. Manchester United are eight points behind and need to win.”
