Paul Scholes has warned Jose Mourinho that Manchester United could struggle to create without Paul Pogba in their derby clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils were 2-1 winners against Russian side CSKA Moscow in their final Champions League group-stage fixture to secure top spot in Group A.

Pogba produced another solid performance in their final Old Trafford clash in the group stage following the club record signing’s outstanding performance at Arsenal.

The 25-year-old made two assists in Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium following goals from Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard.

Pogba’s Sunday afternoon ended on a sour note following the versatile midfielder’s straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

The £89m signing has scored three goals and has made five assists in seven Premier League appearances in the 2017-18 season.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes warned Mourinho that Pogba’s absence will leave the Red Devils short in midfield for the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.

“He played well [against CSKA Moscow]. He was good [on Tuesday night]. In patches he was very good and you can see the goal threat with him,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“He can take the ball anywhere and is willing to risk passes forward. Without that on Sunday [against Manchester City] you have to wonder whether United can create as many chances as they have done.”

Manchester United signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season back at Old Trafford.
