Pat Nevin states his prediction for Man United v Man City
The Chelsea legend believes Jose Mourinho will adopt a direct approach for Manchester United's clash against Manchester City next Sunday
Pat Nevin believes Jose Mourinho will adopt a direct approach when Manchester United host Premier League leaders Manchester City in their derby clash at Old Trafford next Sunday.
The Red Devils boss has attracted criticism for his pragmatic approach to Manchester United’s biggest games against their direct rivals since taking over the reins at Old Trafford in May 2016.
Mourinho was tipped to be more adventurous in the 2017-18 season given the addition of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in deals exceeding £115m.
However, Manchester United showed little attacking adventure against Jurgen Klopp’s free-flowing Liverpool FC side as the Red Devils secured a point in a dour stalemate at Anfield.
The Red Devils limped to a 1-0 win over title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford before defending Premier League champions Chelsea were 1-0 winners against their former manager and his Manchester United side.
The 20-time started the weekend in second place and eight points behind leaders Manchester City ahead of Saturday evening’s clash against Arsenal at The Emirates.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin made an early prediction about Manchester United’s tactics for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford next Sunday.
“We know how Man City will play no matter it’s Old Trafford. But what team will Man United put out?” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“You know Pogba and Fellaini will get a game. They will have the land of the giants out there. They’re just going to shell it. Man United fans will be shouting at the radio but you know if it works, well done Jose!”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
