The Spanish shot-stopper was in fine form as the Red Devils secured a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at The Emirates to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.
De Gea is widely regarded as one of the world’s top goalkeepers and he has earned plenty of praise for his development at Old Trafford since arriving at the club from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
The Spain international produced a string of top quality saves in the second half of Saturday’s game to keep Arsene Wenger’s men at bay, despite Alexandre Lacazette pulling a goal back for the hosts.
And former Chelsea midfielder Lampard is convinced that De Gea has proved himself to be the best shot-stopper around with his impressive form.
Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s game, Lampard simply said: “David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world. He proved that at Arsenal.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against bitter local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford as they look to try and close the gap to the leaders.
The Red Devils have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in 2013.
