Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Nemanja Matic will feature for Manchester United in the derby clash with Manchester City on Sunday, despite suffering from an injury.

The Serbian midfielder was not involved for Manchester United’s 2-1 win over CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as the Red Devils secured their place in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

It has been rare for Matic to miss a game this season since his transfer to Old Trafford from Chelsea in the summer window.

Indeed, Matic has started all 15 of Manchester United’s Premier League games so far this season.

And despite him struggling with a minor injury problem, Mourinho has all but confirmed that Matic will start for Manchester United against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, Mourinho said that Matic is “still injured but will play for sure” against Manchester City.

Manchester United head into Sunday’s game needing a victory to help haul themselves back into the title race.

The Red Devils are currently second in the Premier League table and know that a win over Pep Guardiola’s men would move them five points behind the leaders heading into the hectic festive period.
