Steven Gerrard has reluctantly admitted that David De Gea is clearly the best goalkeeper in the world following his brilliant form for Manchester United.

The Spanish shot-stopper has been earning plenty of praise for his strong performances for Manchester United in recent weeks and he was particularly impressive during the 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League at Old Trafford last Saturday.

De Gea is widely regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in world football and he has confidently made the number one spot his own at Manchester United since his move from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.

The 27-year-old has significantly stepped his game up in recent seasons and former Liverpool FC star Gerrard admits that he is clearly the best around on current form.

Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Gerrard said: “It hurts me to say this, but he is the best goalkeeper in the world. And that’s by far.

“He’s making saves that he’s got no right to make.

“He makes such a big difference to this Manchester United team.”

De Gea will be expecting to start for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United head into the game in second place in the Premier League table and eight points behind Manchester City, who have only dropped two points in their first 15 games so far this term.
