The 24-year-old played 84 minutes of the victory at Vicarage Road and notched up a goal and an assist for Jose Mourinho’s men in an impressive performance.
Lingard has been in good form for the Red Devils so far this season and has scored one goal and made three assists in the Premier League.
However, he has found his first-team opportunities to be somewhat restricted under Mourinho, with the England international having only started two Premier League games so far this season.
He was in impressive form on Tuesday night and will be hoping that his display can help to earn him a place in the starting line-up against Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday.
And former Liverpool FC midfielder Murphy was clearly very impressed with what he saw from Lingard during the 4-2 win over Watford.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Murphy said of Lingard’s performance against Watford: “Jesse Lingard’s movement was absolutely magnificent.
“His ability to keep making those runs in behind is amazing, I played a similar position to him, and you don’t realise the athleticism it takes to keep making those runs.
“I think he’s a little hard done by at times, because he’s up against some tremendous competition.”
Manchester United are now preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday evening as they bid to try and keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.
