Rio Ferdinand: Unsung Man United hero is a manager’s dream
Rio Ferdinand heaps praise on Man United star Jesse Lingard, describing him as a "manager's dream"
Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Jesse Lingard, describing the Manchester United attacker as a “manager’s dream”.
The Manchester United star earned huge amounts of praise for his brilliant display as he scored twice in the Red Devils’ impressive 3-1 win at Arsenal last weekend.
However, that was only Lingard’s third Premier League start of the season, with the 24-year-old having struggled to hold down a regular spot in the starting line-up under Jose Mourinho this term.
Lingard has scored three goals and made three assists in the Premier League so far this season to help Manchester United challenge for the title.
He will be hoping to start for Mourinho’s men when they host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday in the crunch derby clash with the Premier League leaders.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has revealed just why he is such a keen admirer of the England international.
Speaking to BT Sport last week, Ferdinand said: “He is a manager’s dream. He can defend in terms of energy but when they get the ball he comes alive.”
Manchester United head into their clash with Manchester City knowing that a win would move them to within just five points of Pep Guardiola’s men.
The Red Devils are aiming to try and win the title this season for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
