Wenger replies when asked about Arsenal star Ozil moving to Man United
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger shoots down speculation linking star player Mesut Ozil to a move to Manchester United
Arsene Wenger remain tight-lipped when asked about speculation linking Mesut Ozil with a potential move to Manchester United.
Ozil has been in fine form in the last five games after he scored twice and made five assists to earn two man of the match awards.
The World Cup winner has certainly let his football do the talking this season and Ozil has been vital in helping Arsenal to recover from a slow start and hoist themselves up the Premier League table.
The German star attracts his fair share of criticism, though, with his detractors pointing to his languid style as much as his failure to reach the consistently high levels he is capable of.
His displays against Huddersfield Town and especially Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have resulted in a surge of renewed support for the German player of the year.
His performances in those two Premier League games helped Arsenal to unlock the Huddersfiend and Tottenham defences and prompt talk of interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Wenger would be loathe to lose Ozil and especially to arch-rivals Manchester United give his bitter rivalry with Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager has remained a huge admirer of the German and the pair worked together for three seasons at Real Madrid before his move to Arsenal in 2013.
Speaking at his media conference, Wenger was asked about speculation linking Ozil with a move to Manchester United given the midfielder is nearing the final six months of his current Arsenal deal.
“Look, that’s all speculation,” Wenger said.
“You cannot interfere with that. There is only one way to show how much you are committed – your attitude on the pitch.
“When you see him play, one thing you cannot question is the way he wants to play for the team.”
Ozil has won three FA Cups in four seasons since his big-money move to Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.
