Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Watford v Tottenham
The Liverpool legend believes Tottenham Hotspur will edge to a narrow 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to make a return to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening.
The north London side have fallen off the title race pace over the past month or so following a run of three defeats in their last five Premier League games.
Tottenham were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to title rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the absence of talisman Harry Kane in mid-October to lose ground on Manchester City.
Spurs managed to beat the Premier League’s basement club Crystal Palace 1-0 at Wembley before the international break ahead of the north London derby at The Emirates.
Arsenal produced their performance of the season as Mesut Ozil led the Gunners to a commanding 2-0 win over Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the start of November.
Spurs were unable to beat rudderless West Brom after Harry Kane’s late goal rescued a 1-1 draw before 2015 champions Leicester City were 2-1 winners against Tottenham last weekend.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is tipping Tottenham to finally make a return to winning ways with a close-fought win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
“Tottenham have thrown in a couple of iffy performances recently, with the latest coming in the first half of their defeat by Leicester on Tuesday,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Some of Spurs’ stars have not hit the heights of last season, but at least they have good memories of Vicarage Road – when they took the Hornets apart here on New Year’s Day.
“It could be an open game which would suit Tottenham, although I think it will be a lot closer than their last visit.”
Tottenham finished in second place in the Premier League table last term.
