Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for West Ham v Chelsea
The Liverpool legend doesn't expect Chelsea to beat West Ham this weekend
Mark Lawrenson is backing West Ham to pick up points against defending Premier League champions Chelsea at the London Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Premier League title holders have been in excellent form over the past month or so following a return of six victories in their last seven top-flight games.
Chelsea were 3-1 winners against Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United last weekend following goals from influential duo Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte’s men have managed to hoist themselves up to third place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind current leaders Manchester City with 23 games to go.
The defending champions will make the trip across the English capital to take on David Moyes’ struggling West Ham team.
The Hammers lost 2-1 to the Premier League leaders last weekend following David Silva’s last-gasp winner at the Etihad Stadium.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is tipping West Ham to hold Chelsea to a draw in the Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.
“I think the Hammers will be buoyed by that performance, though, and I am backing them to get something against Chelsea,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Blues boss Antonio Conte thinks his team are playing too many games – along with Arsenal, City and United, Chelsea play nine times in December.
“If they are feeling tired, then it might catch up with them here.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after finishing seven points clear of their closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues face a tough ask overhauling current leaders Manchester City this term.
