Gary Neville sends reassuring message to Arsenal fans about Alexandre Lacazette
The Man United legend is confident Alexandre Lacazette will improve at Arsenal despite his recent struggles
Gary Neville is confident that Alexandre Lacazette will turn things around at Arsenal despite a frustrating spell in front of goal.
Lacazette produced an energetic performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with defending Premier League champions Chelsea at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
Eden Hazard cancelled out Jack Wilshere’s opener from the penalty spot after Hector Bellerin brought down the Chelsea number 10 in the penalty area.
Spanish defender Marcos Alonso appeared to have secured three points for the visitors but Bellerin made amends for his error with a late equaliser.
Lacazette has scored eight times and has made three assists in 22 appearances in the Premier League this season following his club-record move to Arsenal from Lyon in the summer.
However, the 26-year-old has failed to score in his last seven outings to heap pressure on Arsene Wenger’s expensive summer addition.
But former Manchester United defender Neville saw signs of encouragement in Lacazette’s hard-working performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 stalemate with Chelsea.
“Lacazette will be disappointed he went off [in the second half against Chelsea],” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast. “His movement was really good [but] it isn’t quite happening for him.
“If he keeps doing those things, he will get there.”
The Gunners will return to Premier League action with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday 14 January.
Arsenal signed Lacazette and Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac from Schalke 04 in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are in sixth place in the Premier League table and five points behind Liverpool FC in fourth spot.
