Arsene Wenger told 29-year-old makes Arsenal tick
Chelsea legend Dennis Wise hails Mesut Ozil as Arsenal's most-important player
Dennis Wise believes Mesut Ozil is the player responsible for making Arsenal tick.
The Germany international produced an impressive performance in Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening.
The Gunners came from behind to secure their passage to the Wembley showpiece courtesy of deflected goals from Nacho Monreal and Granit Xhaka.
Arsenal midfielder Ozil has returned to form over the past couple of months following three goals and three assists in his 10 games in all competitions.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a potential move to their Premier League rivals Manchester United in recent months.
Ozil has less than six months remaining on his current deal and his former team-mate Alexis Sanchez completed the switch to Manchester United next month.
Former Chelsea captain Wise heaped praise on the Arsenal midfielder Ozil following the German’s sparkling displays in recent weeks.
“There is more responsibility on the bigger players,” Wise told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“It makes them want to be consistent week in, week out. He’s the most important player for Arsenal at the moment and he’s got to make the team tick.”
Ozil moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
The Gunners star has won three FA Cup crowns in four seasons but Ozil hasn’t helped Arsenal to win the Premier League title.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
