Man United signing Alexis Sanchez makes Thierry Henry point in open letter to Arsenal fans
The new Manchester United signing pens an open letter to Arsenal supporters about his decision to leave The Emirates
Alexis Sanchez cited Thierry Henry’s decision to leave Arsenal as inspiration for his move to Manchester United in an open letter to Gunners supporters.
The Chile international finally completed a move to Manchester United from Arsenal on Monday evening following months of speculation surrounding his long-term future at the north London club.
Sanchez was initially tipped to complete a switch to Premier League leaders Manchester City but Manchester United were able to offer the South American a more tempting package to come to Old Trafford.
Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan will move in the opposite direction to ensure Sanchez’s void is partially filled by the 29-year-old playmaker.
Sanchez won two FA Cup titles and scored 80 times in 165 games in all competitions during his three-and-a-half season spell at the north London club.
The Chilean forward is the latest list of big names who have called time on their Arsenal careers prematurely under Arsene Wenger, including Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.
And Sanchez referenced Henry’s decision to leave Arsenal for Barcelona in 2006 in his open letter to Gunners supporters about his decision to move to Manchester United.
Sanchez wrote on his Instagram page:
“Thanks for everything Gunners ! I want to say thanks to the Technical Staff, to the medical team and all teammates with whom I shared many nice things for the club and especially those people who do not see themselves on the covers, but without them nothing would be possible, which are there to prepare food for us and take care of us day by day, those who keep our shoes clean and the grass in the best conditions. Many thanks to you for helping us to improve every day. Thank you very much 😢.
Sanchez continued: “There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no knowledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage. I must say I always gave 100%, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.”
The new Manchester United signing added: “I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn.
“Thanks for everything Gunners! All we achieved and the good moments that I gave to the club, I want to dedicate it to the fans, they are the most important. Thanks for every time you sing Alexis Sanchez Baby”
Sanchez becomes Manchester United’s first signing of the January transfer window after the Red Devils saw off competition from Manchester City.
Indeed, the Chile international missed out on the chance to work with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola at The Etihad.
