Jamie Carragher: Arsenal striker will score goals, but won’t be ‘superstar’
Jamie Carragher delivers his honest verdict about Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette
Jamie Carragher believes Alexandre Lacazette is a good striker but isn’t expecting the Arsenal forward to emulate the likes of Thierry Henry at the north London club.
Lacazette has been getting used to life at The Emirates after signing for the north London side from Lyon last July as Arsene Wenger moved quickly to bolster his attacking options.
The 26-year-old has made a relatively strong start to his Arsenal career after having started 19 of the Gunners’ first 22 games in the Premier League.
Lacazette has scored eight goals and made three assists in the top flight to help Wenger’s men up to sixth place in the Premier League table.
It looks as though Lacazette will develop into a key player at Arsenal in the coming years, but former Liverpool FC star Carragher feels that he will never reach the very top level at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I’m not sure if Lacazette is an absolute superstar.
“He’s a very good striker and will get goals. I don’t think he’s Thierry Henry or Ian Wright.”
Lacazette will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Nottingham Forest in the third round.
Arsenal have dominated the competition in recent seasons and won it for the third time in four years last term after beating Chelsea in the final back in May.
