Ian Wright has stated that it is crucial for Arsenal to keep hold of Mesut Ozil beyond the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old’s future has been a source of uncertainty in recent months after he entered into the final six months of his contract at The Emirates.

Ozil is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents and has earned plenty of praise for his performances for the Gunners since his move to Arsenal from Real Madrid back in 2013.

But it still remains to be seen whether the Germany international will commit his long-term future to Arsenal by signing a new contract with the north London side.

Wright, however, is under no illusions that the Gunners must try and tie Ozil down to a new contract as quickly as possible.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live, Wright simply said: “It is imperative that Arsenal keep Ozil.”

Ozil will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action next Tuesday night with a trip to South Wales to take on Swansea City.

The Gunners are looking to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished in fifth place in the table last term.
