Michael Owen states his prediction for Nottingham Forest v Arsenal
The Liverpool legend is backing Arsenal to ease to a comfortable win against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round on Sunday
Michael Owen is tipping Arsenal to ease to a straightforward win against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.
The Gunners are looking to win the competition in consecutive seasons and lift the FA Cup trophy for the fourth time in five years.
Arsenal are a long way behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, while the Gunners trail fourth-placed Liverpool FC by five points in pursuit of a return to the Champions League.
Arsene Wenger’s side will take on defending champions Chelsea over two legs in the League Cup this month with a place in the Wembley final up for grabs.
Winning a domestic cup competition could represent Wenger’s best chance of securing silverware in the 2017-18 season given the competitiveness of the Premier League and the Europa League.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Arsenal to ease to a comfortable win against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday.
“Arsenal have beaten Forest in the FA Cup on two previous occasions back in 1978/9 and 1992/93 and the Gunners went on to lift the Trophy in both of those campaigns,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Forest have only won one of their last 14 games against Arsenal in all competitions and, surprisingly perhaps, Arsene Wenger has never lost at the 3rd Round stage of the competition. Hard to look beyond a good win for the Gunners.”
Arsenal were 2-1 winners against defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey.
The Gunners have beaten Chelsea, Aston Villa and Hull City in their last three FA Cup finals.
