The Chile international’s future has been a source of relentless debate in 2017 after the Gunners failed to reach an agreement with the 28-year-old over a new contract.
Sanchez was close to a move to Manchester City in the summer but the South American’s proposed move fell through after Arsenal failed to sign Monaco forward Thomas Lemar as the number seven’s replacement.
The South American scored 25 times in 38 appearances in the Premier League last season but Sanchez has struggled to maintain his high standards in the 2017-18 campaign so far.
To his credit, Sanchez has shown some promise in recent weeks following three goals in a 3-3 stalemate with Liverpool FC and a 3-2 win at Crystal Palace.
Manchester City are rumoured to be in the market to sign the Arsenal star ahead of the January transfer window, although the Premier League leaders could wait until the summer when Sanchez will be available on a free transfer.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Sanchez is desperate to leave the FA Cup holders after growing frustrated with life at the Gunners.
“It looks like Alexis Sanchez has just been suffocated by being asked to stay,” Keown told Premier League Tonight on BT Sport.
“He just wants to get out and play somewhere else. If he went to City now, he wouldn’t really be a part of that story.
“Would he look at his Premier League medal and think he really played a part?”
Sanchez moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in 2015.
