Arsenal ‘on brink’ of completing signing of 28-year-old in club-record deal – report
Arsenal are close to completing a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Dortmund, say reports
Arsenal are “on the brink” of completing a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund – if they are willing to pay a club-record £55m, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Express is reporting that the north London side are set to make a second bid for the 28-year-old Gabon international after their opening offer was rejected by the German club over the weekend.
The same report says that Arsenal’s second offer for the forward will come close to matching Dortmund’s asking price for the attacker as a deal nears completion.
The story says that Aubameyang’s proposed transfer to The Emirates would surpass the £46.5m paid to Lyon for the signature of Alexandre Lacazette in the summer.
Aubameyang is widely considered to be one of the Bundesliga’s top attacking talents, with the 28-year-old having scored 31 goals in the German league last term.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing for the second leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners head into that game on the back of their 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace in north London as Arsene Wenger’s men returned to winning ways in the Premier League.
Arsenal are aiming to break back into the top four this season after they finished fifth last term.
