Arsene Wenger responds when asked about Arsenal signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The Arsenal boss is remaining tight-lipped about the Gunners' apparent interest in Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Arsene Wenger has refused to shed light on Arsenal’s apparent interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international has been heavily linked with a move to the north London club in the January transfer window.
Arsenal are in the market to sign a proven goal-scorer with Alexis Sanchez seemingly edging towards a move to Manchester United.
The Chile international netted 24 times in 38 games in the Premier League last season to finish as Arsenal’s top goal-scorer last term.
Aubameyang has netted 141 goals in 212 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund during a controversial five-season spell at the Westfalenstadion.
The 28-year-old striker has established himself as a top striker in Europe despite his attitude and professionalism being questioned at times.
Asked about Arsenal’s apparent pursuit of the Dortmund centre-forward in the January transfer window, Wenger told his media conference at London Colney on Thursday:
“I have nothing to add to that. With these kinds of things, it’s better that it’s secret and we don’t come out on it, then we announce it when it’s over the line. Nothing else is close.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
The Gunners signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a club-record deal in the summer but the France forward has only scored eight times in 23 games in the Premier League this term.
