Ian Wright pleads with Arsenal not to sell 31-year-old striker to Chelsea FC
The Arsenal legend doesn't want the Gunners to sell Olivier Giroud to Chelsea FC
Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to keep Chelsea FC target Olivier Giroud at The Emirates.
The France international has emerged as a target for the defending Premier League champions over the past couple of days.
Chelsea FC have been left frustrated in their pursuit of AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko after the Blues were unable to agree personal terms with the Bosnian forward.
The west London side are looking to sign a target man to use as a weapon off the bench to support summer signing Alvaro Morata.
According to reports in the British media, Arsenal have demanded £30m for the 31-year-old target man.
Giroud has only started one game in the Premier League this season, while the French forward has made a further 14 appearances from the bench.
However, the former Montpellier forward has still managed to contribute four goals as a substitute to highlight his ability to influence games from the bench.
Former Arsenal striker Wright is adamant that the Gunners shouldn’t sell Giroud to the defending Premier League champions in the January transfer window.
Asked if he would be happy for Arsenal to sell Giroud to Chelsea, Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live:
“No. Not if he goes to Chelsea. He is going to be in and around Chelsea’s bench.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table as the Gunners look to overhaul Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the top-four race.
