Arsenal given the go-ahead to sign 31-year-old defender after club line up replacement – report
Arsenal have received a boost in the race to sign West Brom defender Jonny Evans, according to reports
Arsenal are edging closer to the signing of Jonny Evans after West Brom identified Ali Gabr as the Northern Irishman’s replacement, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror states that the Gunners have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the 31-year-old as the Baggies look to cash in on the former Manchester United defender.
According to the same article, West Brom are hoping to sell Evans in a £25m deal to raise funds to sign a striker to bolster their bid to beat relegation this season.
The British media outlet is reporting that the Baggies have lined up an agreement with Egyptian club Zamalek to sign centre-half Gabr on loan until the end of the season.
Arsenal have struggled defensively this season after conceding a staggering 31 goals in 24 games in the Premier League.
The Gunners signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in the summer transfer window.
However, Arsene Wenger has used the powerful left-back sparingly throughout the current campaign despite Kolasinac impressing when called upon.
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of Liverpool FC in pursuit of a return to the Champions League.
