Thierry Henry: What I really think about Arsenal signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The Arsenal legend believes Henrikh Mkhitaryan can be a success at the Gunners if the attacker can rekindle his Dortmund form
Thierry Henry has welcomed the addition of Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Arsenal squad.
The Gunners completed a deal to sign Mkhitaryan earlier this week in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Manchester United.
The Armenia international has been handed the number seven shirt at the Gunners as Mkhitaryan looks to get to grips with the Premier League at Arsenal.
The 29-year-old struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Manchester United team under Jose Mourinho despite arriving in a £30m deal in 2016.
Mkhitaryan won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season at Old Trafford, but failed to recapture his Borussia Dortmund form.
The Armenian star netted 11 times and made 15 goals in his final season at Dortmund to earn him the Bundesliga players’ player of the year award.
Former Arsenal striker Henry is hoping that Mkhitaryan can get back to his best in the Bundesliga following his disappointing spell at Manchester United.
“I’m thinking about the Sanchez-Mkhitaryan swap,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“I was a big fan of Mkhitaryan when he was at Dortmund. Things didn’t go his way at Man United so now you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He looks like an Arsenal player with the way he likes to play and they way Arsenal like to play.
“Time will tell us who was right with that swap.”
Mkhitaryan scored in Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Dutch giants Ajax in the Europa League final at Stockholm back in May.
The Arsenal signing could make his Premier League debut for the Gunners against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.
