Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed on Thursday morning that the Gunners were indeed exploring the possibility of signing the Armenia playmaker as part of the deal which would see Alexis Sanchez head in the other direction.
Mkhitaryan has found his first-team opportunities at Old Trafford significantly limited in recent months as he seemingly struggled to win the trust of Jose Mourinho.
It has been suggested that the 28-year-old playmaker could be heading to Arsenal as part of the deal which would see Sanchez move the other way, and Wenger confirmed that it was a “possibility” at his weekly news briefing on Thursday morning.
It remains to be seen whether the proposed transfer will be able to get over the line before this weekend’s round of fixtures, however.
But Mkhitaryan seemed to be enjoying himself despite the uncertainty about his future, as he posed for a picture with his team-mates during training at Carrington.
Defender Victor Lindelof shared the picture above on his personal Instagram story on Thursday afternoon, with a beaming Mkhitaryan present amongst his team-mates.
Manchester United travel to Burnley on Saturday, while Arsenal take on Crystal Palace at The Emirates.
