Borussia Dortmund have told Arsenal that they will have to break their transfer record if they want to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this month, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Star is reporting that the German club have informed the Gunners that they will need to shell out more than the £52m they paid to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in the summer transfer window.

The north London side have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old Gabon international in recent days but there is yet to be any official announcement of a deal.

The same report says that the player himself wants to join the north London side but that he has become frustrated at the slow progress in negotiations between the two clubs.

It is claimed in the same article that Borussia Dortmund rejected a second bid of just more than £50m for Aubameyang – and the German club are holding out for a fee closer to £60m.

Arsenal have already been busy in the January transfer window, offloading the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Francis Coquelin and Theo Walcott, and bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is currently preparing his side for their Premier League trip to Swansea on Tuesday night.
