Arsenal will lead the race to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco if Alexis Sanchez leaves the north London club, according to reports in the media.

RMC Sport, as quoted by the Sun is reporting that the Gunners will head the race for the 22-year-old forward’s signature as a possible replacement for Sanchez should the Chilean leave The Emirates.

Sanchez’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Mesut Ozil entered into the final stages of their contracts at Arsenal.

The same report says that Arsenal will be the “clear favourites” to sign Lemar from Monaco for as little as £61m should Sanchez secure a move away from The Emirates.

However, the move for Lemar is reportedly dependant on Sanchez engineering a transfer to Manchester City from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Lemar was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer but a switch failed to materialise, and he was also linked with Liverpool FC.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently preparing to return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The north London side are currently sixth in the Premier League table as they bid to break back into the top four this season.
