Wenger replies when asked if Arsenal are signing Aubameyang
Arsene Wenger refuses to confirm or deny whether Arsenal have made a bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Arsene Wenger has refused to confirm or deny whether Arsenal have made a bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move to land the Gabon attacker in recent days as Wenger looks to try and bolster his squad at The Emirates following Alexis Sanchez’s exit to Manchester United.
Aubameyang is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most talented attacking players and a potential move to Arsenal would surely excited Gunners fans.
Borussia Dortmund claimed on Saturday that Arsenal had indeed made an official offer to try and sign Aubameyang over the weekend.
However, Wenger remained typically coy when asked about the situation following Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Asked about the speculation of a bid for Aubameyang and whether he is willing to comment, Wenger told his post-match news conference: “No. No comment on that.”
Wenger was then asked for his take on Dortmund claiming that a bid had indeed been made by the Gunners, to which he replied: “They are responsible for their own statements you know.
“I cannot stand up for what they say. But if we sign somebody, we will announce it.
“I half-announced today, Sanchez against Mkhitaryan, because that is likely to happen and the rest… we are not close at all to anything.”
Arsenal now switch their focus back to League Cup affairs and the second leg of their semi-final clash against Chelsea at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
