Conte told Chelsea FC star playing ‘out of his skin’ in absence of Fabregas
Garth Crooks singles out Willian for special praise after his recent performances in the Chelsea team
Willian has been playing “out of his skin” in the absence of Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea, Garth Crooks says.
The Brazil international has profited from Fabregas’ injury problems to secure a run in the Blues team in recent weeks.
Willian has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte over the past 12 months or so.
The South American scored one goal and made one assist in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Brighton to seize his chance to shine.
Willian has now netted three goals and has also made two assists in his last 10 games in all competitions.
Former Spurs forward Crooks has been impressed with Willian’s performances in the Chelsea team in recent weeks.
“The Brazilian is playing out of his skin at the moment, which is just as well considering Cesc Fabregas is out with injury,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
However, the Brazilian was forced off with an injury problem during Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the League Cup last week.
Willian has won two Premier League titles in the past three seasons under two different managers, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
The Brazilian midfielder was a key player under Mourinho, but Conte has used the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder sparingly.
The Chelsea winger moved to Stamford Bridge despite interest from Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
