Bryan Swanson delivers the latest update on Chelsea FC's reported pursuit of Andy Carroll this month
Chelsea FC were interested in a loan move to sign Andy Carroll this month but a switch now looks unlikely, according to reporter Bryan Swanson.
The west London side are inevitably being linked with a host of players this month as Antonio Conte looks to try and strengthen his squad in the mid-season window.
Chelsea FC have already made one signing this month after completing a deal to land midfielder Ross Barkley from Everton at the turn of the year.
West Ham United striker Carroll has been touted as a potential target for the Blues this month as Conte searched for a new target man up front.
However, it seems that a move for the England striker is now looking unlikely after Carroll picked up an ankle injury.
Swanson delivered the latest news on the reports that the Blues are interested in signing Carroll on Friday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Swanson said: “Edin Dzeko is not the only striker Chelsea are considering.
“Another option was Andy Carroll – but his chances of moving to Stamford Bridge have been hit by the news that he’ll be sidelined for about a month with an ankle injury.
“We’re told that Chelsea wanted to sign Carroll on loan but West Ham are only interested in a £20m permanent deal.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently preparing for the return leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Blues and the Gunners played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge when they met in the first leg in west London earlier this month.
